Yemen in ‘imminent danger’ of Famine, Millions will die; Warns UN

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that Yemen is in imminent danger of famine. The nation is in the verge of the worst famine the world has seen in decades.

“In the absence of immediate action, millions of lives may be lost. I urge all those with influence to act urgently on these issues to stave off catastrophe, and I also request that everyone avoids taking any action that could make the already dire situation even worse, ” Guterres said.

The country is witnessing a war between Iranian-backed Houthi rebels and government forces for last five years. Famine will hit the nation as US threatens to blacklist the Houths and planning to drop funding for UN-coordinated relief programme. The instability of the Yemeni currency and the warring parties plan to impose “impediments” for relief organisations can severely affect the existing condition.
