Sale of Homemade Cakes Without License is Punishable

Thiruvanathapuram: The sale of homemade cakes and food items without the license from State Food Safety Department will result in fine of 5 lakh rupees and imprisonment for up to 6 months. Fine for selling food items without label is 3 lakh rupees.

License is mandatory for sales above Rs 12 lakh of homemade food items and below 12 lakh, registration is required. The registration can be done easily through Akshaya Kendra by uploading ID and photo on the site of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. The manufacturer should ensure the quality of the raw materials.

The law came to existence in March 2020, but many of the local manufacturers doesn’t know about the details.
