Mumbai: The Maharashtra state government will provide Rs 5,000 a month as temporary financial assistance to sex workers in the state. The government has issued an order granting financial assistance to thousands of sex workers from October to December. Maharashtra was the first state to take such a step to give assistance to sex workers during the covid period.
Minister for Women and Child Development Yashomathy Thakur said Rs 50 crore has been set aside for the project and additional assistance of Rs 2,500 will be given to mothers with children going to school. About 31,000 sex workers across the state will benefit from this government scheme.
