Serbia’s Novak Djokovic holds record of holding first position in the ATP rankings for six years. Djokovic has surpassed the world record set by Pete Sampras of the United States.
Djokovic has previously held the top spot in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2018 until the end of the year. Only Pete Sampras previously held the record between 1993 and 1998.Djokovic responded to the new record as the crown of his achievements. “This year was full of many specials. The season resumed in August after a six-month hiatus. He started from where he left off before the lockdown. I am just happy to be here”, he said.
