Nobel Prize For Discovery Of Hepatitis C Virus

The honourable Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology were awarded to Americans Harvey J Alter and Charles M Rice and British scientist Michael Houghton for the discovery of Hepatitis C Virus.

The medicine helps for the identification of Hepatitis C virus, which causes cirrhosis and liver cancer. Candidates for the prize in medicine was selected after checking nominations, a five member Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine at Sweden’s Karolinska Institute.

The Award consists of a gold medal and prize money and 10 million Swedish kronor.
