New study : Low protein levels are helping children to escape from Covid

According to the researchers, from the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) in the United States (US), children are escaping from high risk of covid attack as they have lower levels of a receptor protein.

The virus SARS-CoV-2 needs to invade the airway epithelial cells in the lung and another cellular protein called TMPRSS2 chops up the spike, enabling the virus to fuse into the cell membrane and “break into” the cell.

As the lung development is not complete in children, the chances of Covid attack is less.
