Hathras Rape Case; Supreme Court to hear plea for CBI probe today

New Delhi: Today, the Supreme Court will hear the plea for a CBI probe or SIT investigation under a sitting or former Supreme Court or a High Court judge, in the Hathras gang rape and murder case.

Chief Justice of India SA Bobde led three member bench included of Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian will hear the PIL (public interest litigation) filed by social activist Satyama Dubey and and advocates Vishal Thakre and Rudra Pratap Yadav through video-conferencing today.

The petitioners plea for a fair investigation by CBI or SIT as the authorities of UP had failed to take approximate actions against the accused in the case and request to transfer the case to Delhi.

The plea said, “Because no arrest was made in this matter, the accused persons are moving freely and they have no fear at all… the family of the victim has been victimised by the upper caste persons and no action has been done by the authorities/police officials.”

In the case where a 19 year old Dalit woman died last week suffering severe injuries, Five policemen, including the Superintendent of Police, have been suspended from Hathras district for lapses in handling the complaint and accusing of no gang rape was involved.

The woman’s family was asked to undergo lie detector tests and threatened and locked up in their home while the police cremated the woman’s body and placed under house arrest to prevent them from talking to the media.
