‘A dream come true’: Krystle D’souza on working with Amitabh Bachchan

In Chehre, she plays Emraan Hashmi’s love interest. Shooting with Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi, that too in her debut movie, was like a dream come true for Krystle D’souza. Speaking about Bachchan she says, ‘’Imagine Amitabh Bachchan coming up to you and saying ‘‘Hi Krystle, I’m Amitabh Bachchan.’’ He introduced himself. He is the humblest human I have ever met. He has no air about himself’.’’

Krystle loves experimenting with new mediums. Her music video titled ‘Ek Bewafa’ released in May tells a heart-wrenching story of love and betrayal. She received great acclaim for her portrayal of a girl torn between two men.

In an interview with THE WEEK, Krystle, known for her roles in shows such as ‘Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai’ and ‘Brahmarakshas’ talks about her journey and her transition from TV to movies and her new home.

Excerpts:

You got to share screenspace with Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi in Chehre, your debut movie. Did you get nervous while shooting with industry bigwigs?

I feel like this is very surreal. It is something that people dream of and it’s currently my reality. Getting to work with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi, Rhea Chakraborty, Siddhant Kapoor,Raghu Yadav…Imagine doing a debut in a film like this. It’s a dream come true.

I loved working with Amitabh Bachchan. Imagine Amitabh Bachchan coming up to you and saying ‘‘Hi Krystle, I’m Amitabh Bachchan.’’ He introduced himself. He is the humblest human I’ve ever met. He has no air about himself. Emraan Hashmi is such a gentleman, so humble. Getting to work with such a legend in the same frame was unreal. Most of my shoots were with Emraan. He’s a pleasure to work with. He made me feel comfortable. Working with these two performers was overwhelming. When a good cast comes together, everyone helps each other better their craft. We had good fun.

‘Chehre’ was shot in Slovakia and Delhi. How did the shoot go?

The shoot went very smooth. There were no hurdles as such. It was a pleasant shoot. That said, one day, a bunch of goons came and created some havoc. It was really scary at that time. But now it is an experience that I take back from the film.

You switched from TV to Bollywood. How hard or easy was the transition?

The transition was not that difficult, to be honest. My job is to act. For me what matters the most is the character, not the medium.

Personally, my career in TV helps me a lot now. As a television actor, you have that much of work experience. It has helped me to be more confident as an actor. I do not think I would have been able to perform in front of the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi if I did not have that much experience that I gained from TV.

It also becomes a little bit of burden sometimes especially while working with people who are narrow minded. A lot of film producers and directors feel I am overexposed. So much of following and experience…There are two sides to a coin.

You post food pictures on Instagram.

I’m a foodie. I enjoy desserts. I binge eat on cheat days.

Tell us about your new home in Mumbai.

I’ll be shifting to my new house in another two-three days.

I live in Mumbai. My parents live in Mumbai as well. I always lived in their house. Now I have a house of my own. It is the first house that I bought. It has a nice balcony and an amazing view. My interior decorating team worked really hard. I can’t wait to move in.
