81% to 58% : Percentage of vaccinated children falls down

The report from National Family Health Survey (NFHS), the percentage of vaccinated children in Pune has fallen from 81 percent to 58.1 percent in the last 4 years. The district has witnessed a drop of 22.9 percent in vaccination of children from the year 2016 to 2020.

The major vaccines for polio, BCG, DPT, measles, Hepatitis B and rotavirus were not properly given to children in the district. The percentage of kids aged between 12-23 months who were vaccinated went down from 95.4 percent in the year 2015-16 to 79.2 percent in the year 2019-20.

The data was collected the information from the vaccination card of the children in the pune district. The survey showed that only 66.2 percent of the kids aged 12-23 months were vaccinated in the year 2019-20 when 86.3 percent were vaccinated in the year 2015-16.

This fall down result in serious problems as polio, measles, Hepatitis B can only be effective tackle through vaccine. The condition of children may deteriorate in any of these infection affect the children.

When 92.8 percent of the kids were vaccinated in the year 2015-16 with Diphtheria, Tetanus & Pertussis (DPT) vaccine, it came down to 68 percent in the year 2019-20. Only 61.3 percent kids aged 12-23 months were vaccinated with hepatitis B vaccine in the year 2019-20.
